Delhi firm gets set to ‘prop up’ GoT Season 8
While fans are eagerly awaiting the finale of Season 7 of Game of Thrones, which will be out on Monday in India, a South Delhi firm has begun work on the props and costumes to be used in the next and final season of the popular television series.
Rangarsons, an export company in Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi, has been supplying costumes, jute trimmings for clothing, armour, furniture and set decorations like trunks and pots for GoT since 2011.

Govt mulls redo of amphitheatre
Used as a dumping ground by locals and an alleged hangout for drug and alcohol addicts, a neglected amphitheatre in the heart of Old Delhi’s Sitaram Bazar could be transformed into a cultural hub, with the government considering a proposal for the same.
The open-air theatre located at the complex, which includes a shelter for the homeless and a community centre of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), in Shanker Gali has fallen into disrepair over the years.

Pehlu Khan’s kin want case transferred out of Rajasthan
A day after the Rajasthan Police cleared six people whom mob-lynching victim Pehlu Khan had named as accused in his dying declaration, the family of the deceased has demanded that the case be transferred outside the State.
Mr. Khan, a 55-year-old dairy farmer, was allegedly lynched by cow vigilantes in Rajasthan in April this year.

Says nobody ever thought that a woman will be the Defence Minister or Foreign Minister of India
Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said that women’s reservation is necessary in the country for at least 20 years if not forever.
Ms. Dikshit was speaking at a ‘Women Conclave’ organised by Kirori Mal College, Delhi University.
Two-day event
The two-day event revolved around women empowerment and issues related to atrocities faced by women in politics, gender discrimination, health and women in the music industry among others.

Old Delhi traders complain of major decline in sales; some welcome the move
A month after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was rolled out, traders in the Walled City are still coming to terms with the policy.
Adnan Azam, owner of a shoe store in Ballimaran, says there is hardly any business due to the implementation of GST.
“Small factories have not been sending me merchandise as they are yet to understand how the tax structure works. Daily sales have gone down from Rs. 1,50,000 to Rs. 10,000.”
He adds, “GST may work out well in the long term, but as of now traders are reeling under low income and a high maintenance rate.”
There are others who are avoiding investing in new stock due to the prevailing confusion and cost of stock maintenance.

Women body releases draft Muslim family law
Triple talaq petitioners lead the way
A draft Muslim family law that seeks to end polygamy and unilateral divorce was on Thursday released here by some of the petitioners in the case against triple talaq that was decided by the Supreme Court last month.
After the Supreme Court judgment held the practice of instant divorce or talaq-e-biddat unconstitutional, the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), one of the petitioners in the case, drafted a Muslim family law along the lines of Hindu and Christian Marriage Acts.

Paharganj, Burari cemeteries to re-use graves every 5 years
In a move to address the shortage of land for burial, cemeteries in Paharganj and Burari will from Friday begin giving burial plots to families of the deceased for a period of five years, after which the site will be re-used.
The direction was issued in a letter to heads of all churches in Delhi by the Indian Christian Cemetery Committee (ICCC) recently.
The letter also stated that in case of another death in the family within five years, the same grave will have to be used. The family would be able to retain it for five years from the date of the second burial.

Self-defence classes gain momentum at DU after the NYE mass molestation
In the wake of the mass molestation at Bengaluru, which sent shock waves to the nation, colleges in Delhi University (DU) are going a step ahead by encouraging students to enrol for self-defence classes, and some are even imparting skill development training to empower.
“We’re running a 15-day self-defence program in collaboration with Delhi police. The Bengaluru incident made us realise that we will have to take responsibility for our own safety,” says Hemant Ghai, a second year B Sc (H) student of Kirori Mal College (KMC), “What happened that night was not only sad but was also a wake up call. This is an initiative on our part to urge the authority to bring bold changes, and to also empower our students at the same time. We want people to stop playing the blame game.”
